Vancouver Performance Art Series, program
September 10 – 20, 1992
Creative Access Description
A tabloid size newspaper with twelve portrait oriented pages, including front and back cover, printed in black ink on a thicker newsprint. Centred at the top of front cover is the series logo, the back of a black gloved left hand with all five fingers outstretched emerging from the inside of the circular form of an antique measurement device, possibly a sundial, consisting of two concentric metal rings, the outer ring decorated with plant like engravings and markers measuring angles from zero to ninety degrees. The inner ring has two series of Roman numerals from I to XII. A roughly rectangular metal slider is affixed to the rings just above where the hand is positioned. Text below the logo in a standard serif font includes the name, dates, location, and ticket price of the series, followed by a list of individual performers with dates. On the bottom of the page and following throughout the document are half page/quarter spread size features on each performance in the series, each with unique graphic design, images, fonts, design elements, and varying degrees of detail. A half page panel on the lower inside of the front cover includes full credits for series production and funding acknowledgements as well as the grunt gallery logo, a rectangular form with rough faded edges meant to evoke paintbrush strokes with the word 'grunt' in lowercase serif font formed by use of negative space. From the second to the sixth page, a curator's text in a standard serif font runs the lower half of the pages. Following this, advertisements for local arts events, galleries, salons, bookstores, etc. also with varying graphic design, images, and text layouts fill the remainder of the pages. The back cover is a full page add for 'Artropolis 90', a large scale survey exhibition of contemporary BC artists.
