Biography

Sheri-D Wilson is the award-winning author of 13 books, 4 short films, and 4 albums which combine music, and poetry. Known for her electric performance-style, Sheri-D has performed and taught workshops at festivals around the world. In 2019, Sheri-D was appointed to The Order of Canada, for her contributions as a Spoken Word Poet and her leadership in the community. In her poems, Wilson explores personal story, beauty and love, social justice, lost languages, bullying, violence against women and the earth. Wilson brings a quirky sense of humor, and an uplifting presence to all of her work. A strong advocate for social change and community building, in 2003 she founded The Calgary Spoken Word Society and remains the Artistic Director today. For 11 years the society produced a very large Spoken Word Festival and sidekick School Program. In 2005, Sheri-D founded The Spoken Word Program at The Banff Centre and was Director/Faculty until 2012. Sheri-D lives in Calgary and Vancouver, where she’s as busy as the emblem of Canada–editing a 350-page epic poem to be published in 2023 by Write Bloody North. She’s a Marriage Celebrant and Ceremonialist and is often sighted with her dog Willow.
