About the Program
On the Rocks/Birds was a two-person exhibition featuring works by Georgie Haggerty and Marie Desjardins. Haggerty's On the Rocks was originally planned as the base for a lighthouse sculpture. As it developed, she realized that it was not a rocky seashore; it had become a pile of stone in a fenced field. Haggerty has refined her technique in the art of papier-mâché over the years, and has carried it well beyond its usual uses. On the Rocks is a continuation and expression of her work in this medium. The installation consists of a group of papier-mâché rocks surrounded by a fenced field that Haggerty remembers from her Saskatchewan youth. Her friend Marie Desjardins has created birds using mixed media painting and embroidery to inhabit this stony place.~root~>Identifier
