Biography

Georgie Haggerty is an anomaly in the art world. Emotions, constantly being worn on the sleeves of many young artists is not the case with Georgie's sculpture. A pervading sense of collectedness results from a concise intuitive analysis with a dominating sense of humor. With an art training that began in the 1950s at the Calgary Allied Art Centre, it was only a short time before she moved on to courses at Calgary S.A.I.T., Banff Summer School, University of Saskatchewan (Regina and Emma Lake) and Pan American College, Edinburg, Texas. Along the way is where she decided upon sculpture as a means of expression in the objective sense. Back in Vancouver, she took a bronze casting class at Capilano College and studied sculpture in Calgary once again with Katie Ohe.
