Politics of Power

About the Program

Curated by Morgan McGuigan, Politics of Power is a series of large-scale oil paintings by artist Lil Chrzan. In these figurative works, the artist asks questions about power and power-related relationships. The exhibition deals with recent news events, such as the Mount Cashell Orphanage scandal, not by asking the obvious moral questions surrounding the incident but rather by asking, how could this have been covered up for so long? Chrzan concludes that power played an unexplored role in the incident. The imposing paintings that represent explorations and thoughts about the moral decay power encourages exude darkness, mustiness, and images of the oppression of power that leave the viewer overwhelmed and disturbed.
