About the Program
The First Nations Performance Series Cabaret was the kickoff event for the First Nations Performance Series and featured seven artists, including some who performed solo works as part of the series. Aiyyana Maracle emceed and performed Mourning Song for the Death of Colonialism. Writer and actor Sam Bob read from some of his works in progress. Series Technical Director Archer Pechawis performed his piece Indians. Iris performed a rendition of Tina Turner's Private Dancer. Âhasiw Maskêgon-Iskwêw shared a video work with text adapted from Dee Brown's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. Finally, Jimy Sidlar and Don Morin performed a suite of songs with vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar. ~root~>Artist
