About the Program

In Flower Girl, Lisa Deanne Smith created an interactive performance piece wearing a costume incorporating fresh flowers. Standing on a pedestal, Smith spoke about her desires then walked through the audience and surrounding neighbourhood asking people to "please pick me." This performance was part of the Fluid Sexuality Series, exploring sexuality that lives beyond constructions of gender, sexual orientation descriptions, role-playing, and societal definitions of the body, beauty, and desire. Definitions of sexuality need not be only limited to the body, but include sexuality as it exists in less tangible forms—independent of human presence or interaction. The Fluid Sexuality Series was curated by Irene Loughlin and Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa, and was hosted by Gallery Gachet.
