About the Program

In the new work, End of the Moon, Laurie Anderson set out to write an epic poem made of songs, images, and stories that relate in new ways and invent a language that explores the contemporary meanings of freedom and time. Research for this piece involved a lot of travel as well as work with NASA where, as an artist in residence, Anderson was looking at nanotechnology and imaging. She dreamt of making a work that focuses on spirituality and consumerism, a work that attempts to be a true portrait of this country at the beginning of the century. This performance was a co-production with International Arts Initiatives.
