About the Program
Presented by grunt gallery and co-curated by Dana Claxton and Lori Blondeau, INDIANacts: aboriginal performance art was a three day gathering of artists and scholars to examine Aboriginal performance art practices. In the past twenty years or so a significant growth in contemporary Indigenous performance art has been generated by a unique combination of culture, tradition, time, and place. This art form has been approached from places as diverse as visual art, video and film, and the fringes of dance, music, and theatre. Whatever the background, a certain dialogue of works has been created and the time for discussion regarding the history and process of this practice has arrived.Events included a meet and greet opener, a keynote address, five panel discussions, a performance, a gallery visit, dinners, and an open mic performance cabaret closing party.~root~>
