Recent Work: Paintings and Ships

About the Program
Graham's recent work centres around the modern luxury ocean liner and contains six paintings and six replicas of luxury liners. Each work consists of one model and one painting displayed against a coloured surface. The replicas are constructed in paper mâché, tape, and cardboard from milk cartons. The artist describes them as Emily Carr, Georgia O'Keefe, and Lawren Harris thrown into a blender with an old heavy metal album. There's a certain lushness to these works, at once organic and otherworldly, dense, haunting, and foreboding. They are the culmination of many influences Graham has long been interested in. Valentine's Day opening night included a performance by Ellen McIlwaine–one of rock and blues' most exciting performers. ~root~>Artist
