The Trials of Wong Foon Sing

September 8 – October 1, 2005
Exhibition

About the Program

In The Trials of Wong Foon Sing exhibition, Keith Langergraber created a series of drawings, photographs, and a sculptural set based upon an almost forgotten murder case that took place in Vancouver in 1924. The work is centred on the murder of a Scottish nursemaid, Janet Smith at the home of F. L. Baker, a prominent exporter of pharmaceutical drugs. Because the prime suspect was a Chinese house boy named Woo Foon Sing and the murder had occurred in the Shaughnessy Heights neighbourhood, the ensuing investigation and court cases created a great deal of controversy.

The Trials of Wong Foon Sing was in conjunction with SWARM, Vancouver's annual gallery-hop, meet-and-greet, and art party extravaganza on September 8 and 9, 2005.
