About the Program
Re-Writing Her Body: Towards the Reading Room elaborates and extends Pam Hall's work interrogating the power of the text in constructing the female body. A site-specific installation of book, text, and sound works, Re-Writing Her Body: Towards the Reading Room also invited the audience to participate in the on-going inscription and re-inscription of female embodied experience. Hall conducted a number of writing workshops with women and girls in Vancouver to explore writing as a new way of learning and to seek collaborators and co-authors in the creation of a new set of book works which "populated" the Reading Room as it developed over five years. Re-Writing Her Body: Towards the Reading Room emerged from a 6 year body of work entitled New Readings in Female Anatomy. ~root~>Artist
