Queerly Canadian

About the Program

Daniel Collins' exhibition Queerly Canadian explores the multiplicity of queer identifications occurring in Canada today. Ironically, it is a show about patriotism as well, the participants a virtual who's who of the West Coast queer community. In addition, it is a series that explores Canadian icons with a decidedly queer aesthetic. Daniel Collins has been taking photographs of Vancouver's queer community for many years. On June 28, 1969, while the queers of the Stonewall Bar rioted in New York, Collins purchased his first secondhand 35 mm camera in Toronto. This exhibition celebrates both of these events.
