About the Program

An evening of performances by John Boehme, including Ocularcentrism and its Relationship to Oral Traditions and Spectacle, Lake. Described by the artist as: "This is a cotton candy-tinted video of my right ear being operated on. Overlaid with text challenging the ubiquitous notion of a hierarchy between the senses. The visual imagery is aurally punctuated by a broadcast style narration. This performance relates to the relational notions of scriptism, phonocentrism, and ocularcentrism by opening up a syntax between audience as passive participant or audience as active participant.
