hibernacula
April 30 – May 18, 1996
Exhibition, Artist Talk
About the Program
Leah Decter's concept for hibernacula evolved from issues raised her most recent series, romantic notions, which examines and interferes with the construction and results of gender based roles and stereotypes, and delves into how these ideas are perpetuated in our society and within ourselves. This work was conceived from a feminist perspective and from a position of not conforming entirely to feminine models inherent in our social structures. Decter's exhibition of mixed media sculpture and works on paper focuses on memory in both a cultural/social and personal context. Opening night featured a book launch of Ann Decter's second novel Honour. An artist talk was presented on May 2, 1996.~root~>Artist
