About the Program
Daniel Olson's Collection featured an installation of collected found objects from the streets. While Olson's work sometimes takes the form of extraordinary objects, events, or situations, Collection takes its point of departure from an interest in things marginal. Since 1992, Olson has been collecting brush parts fallen from city street cleaning vehicles, during long walks which double as anonymous, nearly invisible performances. Although the gallery installation can be done in a matter of minutes, Collection is the result of endless hours combing the roadside, dodging traffic for insignificant pieces of metal. Olson walks for miles, cleaning up after the cleaners, accumulating their debris from the open road, offering the results in a randomly ordered display within the closed space of the gallery. An artist talk and demonstration was presented on January 18, 1996.~root~>Curator
