About the Program

In Computer Works, a series of computer generated miniature prints, Elizabeth Fischer brings into question the long-held visual art notion of the "original." One of the things that fascinates Fischer most about online culture is the issue of pseudonymity, the erasure of this insidious, essentially forcibly applied, fantastical identity. Online, all identity is self-manufactured, of one's choosing, and thus content replaces identity. Content IS identity, constantly shifting, its blood, information and uncontrollable as long as pseudonymity is maintained. This is freedom. This is very dangerous to those who must maintain their grip on power.
