Jonestown Carpet

October 1 – 26, 1991
Exhibition, Installation

About the Program

In 1981, Laura Baird started work on Jonestown Carpet—an installation incorporating a spotlight, a rocking chair, and a hand-made tapestry rug depicting the Jonestown carnage. An installation of the carpet-making work in progress was presented by the Contemporary Art Gallery in November 1988. Requiring more than a million stitches to complete, the finished work debuted at grunt.

An artist talk was presented on October 3, 1991.
