About the Program
In Joey Schwartzman's new series ICONS, he turns to the pastoral; the cow in the field. His play with framing takes us back to religious painting—to the icon. But these are rendered as if through a video screen. There is the flattening out one sees in third or fourth generation video. Again Schwartzman harks back to the past and again he painfully reminds us it is past and we are looking back. It remains at a distance; we can see it but we can't get back there and from this place we cannot interpret these scenes. We are left looking but never knowing what it is we see.~root~>Artist
