About the Program
Michael Hornsby, better known for his paintings, turns his hand to sculpture but, as before, not satisfied with this third dimension, has to add movement to create his effect. His sculptural exhibition Dance consists of eight life-sized human busts mounted on bases by large automobile springs. They are made from concrete, steel, and plaster, and weigh on average 350 pounds. The viewer, by applying pressure anywhere on the busts, causes the busts to slowly undulate back and forth, creating the impression of a dancer. The human features are androgynous in character and intentionally stark. The result is an installation that is at once bewitching and disconcerting.~root~>Artist
