Exhibition, Artist Talk

About the Program

Jo Cook's Drawings for Orbis Pictus included large, abstract charcoal drawings and text inspired by Jan Amos Comenius. Comenius (1592 -1670) was a Czech philosopher, teacher, and founder of a visual teaching method (Orbis Pictus) wrote his book originally to teach children about the world and the life in it. Upon reading the book, Cook began a series of drawings and woodcuts of the text of the first chapter titled "Mundus/The World." An artist slide talk was presented on July 6, 1989.
