Dolls on Display

June 6 – 17, 1989
Exhibition

About the Program

With Dolls on Display, local artists Terry Henderson, David Steele, and Tom Wren present an exhibition of mixed media toys at grunt. These toys are a result of years of intensive study and labour. Showcased in an installation setting, this exhibition is intended to be reactive. By inviting visitors to play with the objects that have links to childhood, but in their transformation also stir up intense feelings not usually associated with play time, we hope to force the viewer to appreciate the role of toys as emotional catalysts. As well, we see the exhibition forcing the viewer to reassess relationships with the 'other,' normal, or otherwise, and indeed, to question the place of the individual in a society as a whole.
