About the Program

Social Criticism: a display of generational rage by a guy born in 1945 was an exhibition of paintings and postcards by David Ostrem. Mild-mannered Ostrem, known for his unassuming and witty look at popular culture, steps out from behind his genteel persona. Nothing is subtle in these outspoken works. The years of stored up anger about contemporary issues is channeled through his brush to produce paintings where no one is beyond criticism. With titles like The Failure of Technology, The Failure of Christianity, Fuck the Eighties, and Art Sucks written across the works, Ostrem takes a stand and it's obvious that he's no innocent. An artist slide talk was presented on December 1, 1988.
