About the Program
The Chilean government is a military regime that seized power in the coup of 1973, murdering Salvador Allende, the democratically elected president, along with a conservatively estimated 15,000 civilians. Chile: I Do Not Take Your Name in Vain is a film made clandestinely by Chileans that chronicles the emergence of mass opposition to the military dictatorships in 1983. The purpose of the screening was to educate and raise awareness of the situation in Chile, as well as raise money for a women's group in Lo Hermida, one of the biggest shantytowns in Santiago, who provide communal kitchens and a source of employment. The screening provided supplementary information and had a short talk and question period. ~root~>Identifier
