He asked me what caused my malaise

September 18 – 21, 1986
Performance Art, Multi Media Presentation

About the Program

Part of the second annual Vancouver Fringe Festival, He asked me what caused my malaise is an original multi-media script. Using a combination of actors, slides, and sound, Marion Barling investigates gender identification through the use of dolls and children's toys, and explores anorexia and dyslexia as metaphors of women's psyche in today's society. This production weaves a tale of a young woman in university trying to find her way through a world where each images cried back at her in distortion. Her desperate effort to make sense of a world that has no place for her or a true reflection of her is both insightful and thought provoking.
