About the Program

The title of Colin Fraser's Beyond the Border refers to both the real borders containing the works and to the imaginary border between reality and the places the artist is trying to describe or intimate with his pieces. The pieces in total represent a picture of a place much like artifacts in a tomb represent a site, a place in the past. Fraser wants the viewer to form an impression of this place, just as an archaeologist does with real artifacts. In addition, these works represent the duality of abstract/anarchy bordered by geometry/organization. In some cases, the border breaks from the pressure of what it contains.
