About the Program

Built on Glass was a show of glass assemblage by Jean MacRae. On a textural background of various cloths, and using an overlay of glass in various shapes and sizes, she places found objects in the form of copper or bits and pieces collected. The resulting abstract is alive visually with each layer visible and accounted for. The effect is that the central found object goes through a change in context bringing to light exciting aesthetic possibilities to the viewer. The work is accomplished with humour and insight. Jean regards the work as "disposable" and like a growing number of Vancouver artists uses discarded objects recycled to prove a new aesthetic that talks to the way we live.
