Creative Access Description

A colour portrait image of a large-scale studio photograph in portrait orientation mounted on a white wall in a gallery space. The photograph features a barefoot Anishinaabe woman with short dark hair wearing a long red dress that is nailed onto a pole to the right of her. Her body is turned against the pole as she is pulling and ripping the dress off of the pole with an emotionally charged expression, appearing to be yelling with intensity, straining the muscles around her neck. The pulling of the fabric stretches the strong fabric, creating tension lines between her body and the nailed part of the fabric. The dress has three-quarter length sleeves and written on her exposed forearms are the first names of missing (Indigenous?) women in black ink. The bottom edges of the dress are frayed and torn, suggesting that these parts have been freed from the pole. On the pavement floor are pieces of the dress that got ripped off in the process, alongside some large, long nails, a hammer and a black bucket in the corner behind the pole. The pole resembles a streetside electrical pole with worn-out wood and graffiti on the pole as well as on the worn-out walls in the background.
