Creative Access Description

A colour landscape image of four large-scale studio photographs mounted on the north and west walls of a gallery space. On the north wall, the photograph, in landscape orientation features an Anishinaabe woman sitting semi-prone sideways on one hip on a clay-covered ground. Her clothes, a simple t-shirt and pants, have been caked with mud. She is scrubbing the ground with a clay-soaked rag and a bucket of mud sitting beside her. To the west, there are three portrait photographs. The first one on the left is of an Anishinaabe woman with short dark hair wearing a long red dress that is nailed onto a pole. Her body is turned against the pole and she is pulling and ripping the dress off of the pole while yelling with an emotionally charged expression on their face. Next to this is a photograph that shows an Anishinaabe woman suspended in the air in a sitting position against a creased and crumpled craft paper background that gathers around her and covers the body like a cloak, blending into her beige-coloured clothing. At the end of the row is a large side-profile portrait of an Anishinaabe woman with long black hair, posing in a sumptuous cloak of crimson roses that hangs down to the floor against a dark grey background.
