Creative Access Description
Colour landscape image of the left and south walls of the gallery. On the left side of the image is a five-line wall text detailing the location, date, time, magnitude, and duration of the El Salvador earthquake. Against a white wall, the titles are in both English and Spanish in smaller black text with the corresponding info in larger squiggly painted blue text. The text reads: 'Location/Ubicación: SAN SALVADOR / Date/Fecha: 1986/10/10 / Time/Hora: 11:49:26 AM / Magnitude/Magnitud: 7.5 / Duration/Duración: 00:00:38.' Underneath this is a small white plinth holding a stack of blue exhibition catalogues. To the right of the text is a continuous mural from the left wall to the right. The left side depicts three figures each laying in a hammock. These drawings are black line drawings on the white walls, surrounded by a large rectangular section of black paint. Blue line drawings of foliage overlap these images. Lines of English text in yellow block letters are painted near the top of the black rectangle and bright green Spanish text is near the bottom. The text reads 'THAT NIGHT WE SET UP / HAMMOCKS AND / MATTRESSES OUTSIDE / TO SLEEP' and 'ESA NOCHES / QUEDAMOS / AFUERA DURMIERDOEN / HAMACAS Y COLCHONES.' The wall on the right shows buildings both standing and crumbling. There is a large television painted to the right of the buildings. These drawings are black line drawings on the white walls, with pops of light blue, also surrounded by a large rectangular section of black paint. Text in English is near the top of the black section in yellow block letters. Spanish is near the bottom in bright green letters. To the right of the TV is smaller black text on the white walls. Some of the text that can be see in its entirety reads: 'EVERYONE FEARED MORE QUAKES / WOULD COME AND WE'D BE CRUSHED BY / OUR HOMES, I DON'T REMEMBER / IF THE PILES OF / RUBBLE AND PILES / OF PEOPLE WERE / SOMETHING I LIVED / THRU OR JUST SAW / ON TV. / I GREW UP / SEEING MY / COUNTRY FALL AND / CRACK AND BREAK / OVER AND / OVER AGAIN' and 'CRECI VIENDO A MI PAIS CAER / Y ROMPERSE UNA Y OTRA VEZ.' In the centre of the gallery is a large black bench with silver legs.~root~>Description
