Creative Access Description
Colour analogue video of a solo performance by a young Chinese person with short buzzed black hair and wire framed glasses. They enter the stage dressed in a black blazer and stand in front of a table covered with a white tablecloth. Reading from a script into a standing microphone, they expressively tell the story of a young Chinese woman discovering her Queer identity through several short vignettes detailing her attraction to and relationships with a series of women as she comes of age. The story is punctuated with moments of humour and contemplative pauses. Transitioning between vignettes, the performer changes outfits, becoming a young tomboy with a traditional Chinese court hat, a version of pop star Madonna with a leather biker jacket over a lace bra, and a butch lesbian in a man's suit and hat. As the story progresses, the main character becomes increasingly critical in their reflections around intersectionality, Whiteness, and class privilege within Queer communities. Ending the story with a suggestion of a future yet to come, the performer bows and the audience applauds.Description
