Parking Art in Parking Lots
2004
The project Parking Art in Parking Lots was conceived with several goals in mind: to contribute to discourse on artistic intervention; to promote cross-pollination between young and more experienced artists, and artists and the Kingston community; and to bring contemporary artworks to new audiences and geographic areas in Kingston by positing innovative cultural alternatives to the city's existing public artworks/monuments. From May to September 2004, the project treated Greater Kingston to six radically different, site-specific interventions that transformed parking spaces into dynamic, cultural playing fields abuzz with unique projects, challenging ideas and concepts concerning our relationship with a little-considered space known as the 'parking lot.'~root~>
