Eyes of Laura
Janet Cardiff
2005
“Hello, I am Laura, a security guard at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Through work, I have access to a lot of security cameras. I hacked a way to put one of these online on my blog so you can see it and control it.” These words were posted anonymously to select internet groups around the world on January 27, 2005. The response was immediate and, as hoped, provocative. Was this website the work of a real security guard who had infiltrated the Vancouver Art Gallery's security system, provided internet users around he world with access to one of the gallery's security cameras and kept an ongoing journal that read like the script of a film noir? Eyes of Laura was published in conjunction with Janet Cardiff's website project commissioned by the Vancouver Art Gallery and launched in September 2004.
