Catalogue of an exhibition held at the McMaster Museum of Art, from January 7 to February 18, 2001. Curated by Kim G. Ness, the exhibition of paintings, sculpture, photographs, and alter pieces by Vancouver-based, Hamilton born Jan Wade explored formidable issues associated with multiracial heritage (African, Caribbean, Western European), New World imagery and popular culture with humour, sensitivity, and eloquence. The publication includes an essay by Andrew T. Hunter that recounts a visit made to Wade's home in Vancouver, and focuses on the relationship between the artist's work and popular music. Hunter's interview with the artist addresses similar issues, as well as Wade's experiences as a person of colour living in Canada.
