Collateral Damage: The Tragedy of Medea
Jackie Crossland
1992
Jackie Crossland's reworking of the Greek Tragedy Medea is an inspiring and witty comedy with a savoy narrator and an all-woman cast. The tragic aspect of this modern-day rendition is that women and children are still buffeted about by events over which they have no control, while the men in their lives go to war (hence the title). In the classical myth, Medea is a vengeful madwoman who slays her children when her husband deserts her for another woman; Crossland's Medea is a woman more or less like any other, who deals with her life circumstances as best she can. InĀ Collateral Damage: The Tragedy of Medea the pace is brisk, the dialogue clever, and the comical dimension of women actors playing big-buddy-king-guy and Jason big-hero-dick is unforgettable. Never let it be said that feminists have no sense of humour!~root~>
