Re-Inventing the Diva
1999
This catalogue accompanied the festival Reinventing the Diva, held at Western Front from October 14 to 18, 1998. These five days were exploding with performances, spoken word, video, and divas of peculiar and distinctive natures. The catalogue texts explore the various works presented within the festival, each centred around the notion of the “diva,” and consider questions of race and identity through a feminist lens, and includes contributions from Lori Weidenhammer, Carol Sawyer, Sheila James, Marusya Bokiurkiw, Aiyyana Maracle, Tagny Duff, Antonia Hirsch, and Sylvie Gilbert.
