One of three catalogues published for the exhibition As Public As Race, a series of performances organized during the summer of 1992. Paul Wong's performance was held on July 24. The exhibition As Public As Race was conceived in the context of Race and the Body Politic, a summer residency organized by Chris Creighton-Kelly for the Art Studio program at the Banff Centre. As a series of performances, the exhibition attempts to bring pressing issues concerning race, which were discussed by artists participating in the residency, to a wider audience. Three artists were invited and supported to create new work: Margo Kane, James Luna, and Paul Wong. All three presented work based on their examinations of the complex relationships between race, identity and stereotypes, commenting in different ways on a society largely blind not only to racist attitudes but non-white cultural practices in general.
