Performance au/in Canada: 1970-1990 is a comprehensive chronological catalogue of performance art, both by Canadians and by foreign artists working in Canada or collaborating with Canadian artists. It contains historical essays by co-editors Alain-Martin Richard (a prominent artist, curator and publisher) and Clive Robertson (a pioneer of multidisciplinary artist-run centres), as well as twenty-one essays by artists, thirty-five summaries of major events and festivals, descriptions of 2000 performances, 600 black and white photographs, and a Canadian bibliography of over 400 titles. Performance au/in Canada: 1970-1990 traces the history of Canadian performance art from the dual perspectives of the province of Quebec and Canada at large.
