Devotion: Today's Future Becomes Tomorrow's Archive
2022
Queer people have had to create archives as alternate institutions or para-institutional collections, specifically around embodied materiality, because they were systematically not seen as worth retaining within traditional archival practices. Propelled by the editor's dedicated collecting and explorations of experimental living practices and materiality, this book is a radical collection of overlooked, forgotten and deliberately sidelined IBPOC and LGBTQ2S+ archives. Edited by Jarrett Earnest, Devotion: Today's Future Becomes Tomorrow's Archive contains essays and interviews, accompanied by reproductions of notes, diagrams, works of art, and rare ephemera in this publication which represents an archive of overlooked and excluded archives. Contributors include Stephen Andrews, Nicole Brossard, Candystore, Sybao Cheng-Wilson, Jack Coleman, Alexandra Cunningham Cameron, Christine Davis, David Earle, Michel Foucault, Allen Frame, Josh Franco, Bob Gallagher, Itzolin Valdemar Garcia, Carla Garnet, Léonie Guyer, Barbara Hammer, Simone Kearney, Matthew Leifheit, Ian Lewandowski, Dennis McBride, Marc Meyer, Cara Mumford, Jesse Murry, Jonathan Osborn, Alexis Blair Penney, Jamie Ross, Gil Saunders, Carson Sharpe, Linda Simpson, Tim Smith, Mia Kirsi Stageberg, Adrian Stimson, Alexander Wilson, and Simon Wu.
