Creative Access Description
Colour digital video of a Nehiyaw Isko woman performing movement, dancing, and singing in front of a large projection and four standing mirrors. She wears a pink frilly lace crop top and sparkly pink shorts with a green-blue pattern. Her golden brown hair is held by six sequinned barettes, three on either side of her head, and spills over her shoulders. Her forehead is decorated with a dense cluster of shiny pink beads and her makeup consists of blue eyeshadow and strong dark lines above and below her eyes as well as a vertical line down the centre of her lips and chin. Draped over her shoulders and extending down her arms to her hands is a shawl made from hundreds of bepsi (soda) can pull tabs woven together with long nylon streamers in bands of light blue, pink, orange, lavender, and white. The projected video features shots of the woman in the same costume singing and dancing at the edge of a body of water at sunset, as well as floating on her back in dark water wearing a see-through gown in place of the shawl. Both the video and the live performance are set to a Nêhiyawêwin (Cree) version of Fleetwood Mac's Dreams. In the final sequence, the music ends and the woman sings an a cappella verse of Dreams in Cree while she slowly exits the room through the audience. ~root~>Description
