Creative Access Description

Colour landscape image of a Nehiyaw Isko woman performing in front of a large projection and four standing mirrors. The woman stands in the centre of the frame facing the camera, with her arms outstretched on either side of her and her right leg lifted slightly off the ground, bent at the knee as if taking a step. She wears a pink frilly lace crop top and sparkly pink shorts with a green-blue pattern. Her golden brown hair is held by six sequinned barettes, three on either side of her head, and spills over her shoulders. Her forehead is decorated with a dense cluster of shiny pink beads. Draped over her shoulders and extending down her arms to her hands is a shawl made from hundreds of bepsi (soda) can pull tabs woven together with long nylon streamers in bands of light blue, pink, orange, lavender, and white. Light from the projection behind her, an image of her standing in the same costume in front of a body of water, obscures her face and illuminates her left arm with the pattern of the shawl. Each of the four mirrors reflects elements of her body and costume creating a fractured image effect. A spotlight shines from above illuminating the performance and warm hardwood floor.
