Creative Access Description

Colour landscape image of a Nehiyaw Isko woman performing in front of a large projection and a series of standing mirrors. The woman stands in the centre of the frame with her back to the camera and is looking over her left shoulder, her left arm obscured and her right arm extended outward toward the projection backdrop. Her hands hold the corners of a shawl made from hundreds of bepsi (soda) can pull tabs woven together with long nylon streamers in bands of light blue, pink, orange, lavender, and white, which wraps around her shoulders and covers the lower half of her face. The streamers fan outward suggesting a turning motion. Light from the projection falls on her face illuminating the white barettes holding her hair back and strong dark lines of makeup above and below her eyes. The projection itself is an image of the woman performing in the same costume at the edge of a body of water at sunset, produces a layering effect with the woman and her shadows. To either side, parts of the shawl and streamers are reflected in the mirrors.
