Creative Access Description

A colour landscape image of an oil painting on wooden panel mounted on a white wall in a gallery space. The painting is in portrait orientation measuring 12 inches by 16 inches tall. The painting is done in red, black and blue. It features a Black youth sitting atop a hill covered in swirling switchback paths. The youth, dressed in flowing garments with 3/4 length sleeves and legs and wearing a pair of ankle boots, holds a large kora instrument the same size as the youth. They face it, eyes closed with one hand softly on the instrument's neck and the other hand gently touching the calabash gourd of the kora. Towering above the youth and the hill is a huge doorway against a black background. The gigantic doors are open and expose detailed markings across its surface. A figure so large that only its shoulders and head peek out stands at the door, looking off and out, not directly at the youth but not ignoring them. The figure is crowned in a headpiece that covers their forehead, and ears, which is topped by a wide, curved flat top. The front of the headpiece is also decorated in similarly carved shapes to the door.
