Creative Access Description
Black and white portrait oriented image of a Cree woman drumming. She stands with her left leg slightly forward and her head turned in the direction of the camera. In her left hand she holds the vertical band of sinew on the back of a circular hand drum, the form of which obscures most of her torso. Her right arm holds a drum stick close to her body and the motion of her striking the hide drumhead creates a blur in the photograph. She is barefoot and wears a dark coloured sleeveless unitard with a low cut neck. Her long dark hair hangs in a number of strands braided together with light coloured ribbons. Additional ribbons are affixed to her body suit and hang vertically from her frame. To her right and behind her a man with long dark hair sits at three conga drums. He is largely obscured by the shadow at the edge of the spot light on the woman.~root~>Description
