Biography

Britt Gallpen is an award-winning editor, writer, curator, and administrator based in North Vancouver on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Since 2015, she has been the Editorial Director of Inuit Art Quarterly, expanding the magazine’s editorial scope, while paying particular attention to mentoring emerging Indigenous writers. In recognition of her efforts, she was awarded the Magazines Grand Prix’s Editor of the Year, Honourable Mention in 2017. In 2021, she was shortlisted for Editor Grand Prix at the National Magazine Awards. In 2022, the IAQ was named Best Magazine: Art, Literary, & Culture and was awarded Magazine Grand Prix, the National Magazine Award’s top prize. As a consultant, collaborator, and colleague she has worked with Art Gallery of Ontario, BlackFlash Magazine, Canada Council Art Bank, Canadian Art, Carleton University Art Gallery, Global Affairs Canada Visual Art Collection, Polygon Gallery, Prefix Photo, The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery, and Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq, among others.
