Biography

Chris Collins is a new media artist based in Chicago where he is a lecturer at the School of the Art Institute and the University of Illinois Chicago. He has shown extensively both in the United States and abroad, including at the Museum of the Moving Image, MusieumsQuartier in Vienna, Goethe Institut, Nueberger Museum, MCA, MDW, CAC, CS13, WFMU, WLPN, SFMOMA, and other places both with and without acronyms. His work has been written about in the New York Times, as well as on Rock Paper Shotgun, Rhizome, and others. Collins is infinitely fascinated in networked technologies as a cultural force and as a site of many inherent contradictions: a place of beauty and banality, of empowerment and surveillance, of connection and commodification. His work sits at this intersection, attempting to find poetry, humor, and logic from within this awkward squirm of digital culture.
