Biography

Lea Donnan is a French-born Australian citizen who has spent her life embedded in communities from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia, truly becoming a product of interwoven culture and politics. In early 2018, Donnan received a traumatic brain injury while in residency with Mass MoCa, and has since been slowly returning to her practice. In this time, Donnan founded Whobody Industries as both a way to re-enter into the process of creation, as well as to begin heal through her own work.

Whobody focuses on remixing found furniture, wall works, lights, and plant sculptures with a mindful and curatorial approach honed over years of travel and exposure. This process synthesizes cerebral healing and the object by focusing on interior architecture and the autonomous nature of the mediums with which Donnan works. Much like Donnan’s previous work, Whobody is a process of local investigation and integration with an international perspective. With each piece, Whobody explores the neurology of communal space and the transcendental physical and historical properties of the object.
