Biography

A singular artist who was deeply invested in her research and inventions, Manon was an essential figure in video and contemporary art in Quebec and Canada. Manon Labrecque created works that move, fascinate, and engage the viewing public. She infused her artworks with vital and poetic dimensions. Her work was at once strangely playful and serious. The influence of her art on that of her peers in video, performance, video installation, sound and kinetic installation is absolutely remarkable. Gone at a pivotal stage in her practice, Manon, through her vibrant presence, her humanity, her sensitivity, her “little visions” and her “mechanisms of [re] animations” (as she liked to call them affectionately), is already greatly missed.
