Jim Kalnin (Canadian, b. 1942) was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba. He studied at the Vancouver School of Art, graduating in 1969. He settled in Kelowna in 1982 and taught at Okanagan University College (now UBC Okanagan) between 1987 and 2009. Kalnin also served as the founding curator of the Lake Country Art Gallery from 2010 to 2011. His work considers the natural landscape and its mysticism. He has published two books on spirituality and art. Kalnin had a solo exhibition at the Kelowna Art Gallery entitled Stream in 2001. He was commissioned by the gallery to create a site-specific installation at Kelowna International Airport in 2011. He was also part of several group exhibitions at the Kelowna Art Gallery, including Step by Step in 2002 and Personal Topographies in 2012.
