Biography

Gail Eleanor Carney was born on November 19, 1947 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary and after a brief time in Toronto, moved to Vancouver, BC. Beginning her work as a ceramics technician and teacher, Gail then moved on to become a highly respected and much loved administrator at Emily Carr University of Art and Design for many years. After retiring in 2008, she went on to lend her expertise to the Neufeld Institute, an educational organization for parents and professionals, where she remained integrally involved until the time of her death. With a wide and diverse circle of friends, Gail was loved by many, and will be fondly remembered for her intellect, integrity, wit and wisdom. Gail had the heart of an artist and the mind of a scientist. Her curiosity and zest for life were contagious. She was always larger than life and truly one of a kind. Gail died on December 15, 2015 of metastatic breast cancer at the Saint James Cottage Hospice.
